Pre-school delighted at Ofsted report 19 May 2008
An Exeter pre-school is celebrating after a glowing Ofsted report.

Now at Exwick Parish Hall

In January 2008 we are operating from Exwick Parish Hall (and St Andrew's Church Room next door).

The Hall has been decorated and refitted. We have lots more space inside to play and our garden is bigger than at the school.

There is a carpark and an internal Parents' Area and lots of toilets!  Our staff have lots of space now and their own kitchen.

We are also able to look after more two year olds at Exwick Parish Hall

New Premises News, Dec 2007

We have finally had some exciting news from Devon County Council who informed us that we have been allocated a plot of land on the existing Foxhayes school site when the school moves in January! This means that we will be able to go ahead with our new purpose built nursery building, providing excellent facilities for you and your children! We hope to be able to offer full day, year round care for those of you who want it along with a baby and toddler unit. We have to wait for the planning permission to go through so we will be moving to Exwick Parish Hall temporarily in January, probably for 1 or 2 terms. There are 3 sessions when we can not use the Parish Hall so for these sessions we will be using the school room at the back of St Andrews Church next door. We plan to visit the Parish Hall and St Andrews Church with the children this term so they are familiar with their new building ready for January.

QUALITY CARE FOR OUR YOUNGEST CHILDREN –

Lord Mayor Hazel Slack presents local Playgroup with nationally recognised Award for Excellence

On 17th October 2007 Lord Mayor Hazel Slack joined in the celebrations as The Exwick Ark Pre-School was presented with the Pre-school Learning Alliance’s national accreditation certificate in recognition of the setting’s excellent quality of provision.

The Exwick Ark Pre-School earned the national stamp of approval by successfully passing Alliance’s rigorous accreditation scheme, which has Investors in Children status. The scheme is the first of its kind to recognise the importance of linking early years learning with high quality care and the significance of involving parents.

This accreditation is a significant achievement for the Pre-school, which provides childcare daily 9am-4pm for the 39 children currently on its register.

Head of Playgroup Paula Stone said ‘we are continually improving the level of service and childcare at the Exwick Ark, and so we are thrilled to receive this recognition of our staff’s dedication to the children in our care.’

Steve Alexander, Chief Executive of the Pre-school Learning Alliance, said “Today more parents are looking for quality assurance in the settings for their children. The Pre-school Learning Alliance’s accreditation scheme is the first of its kind in the country.

Accreditation from the Pre-school Learning Alliance lets parents know that their children attend a setting which provides a safe, secure and stimulating environment – an environment that includes good quality educational opportunities appropriate to the children’s age and stage of development and are cared for by well-skilled and trained adults who are above all, committed to the education and care of those young children.”

A Pre-school is often the first environment a child regularly attends away from home, and so is a crucial part in his or her early development. The Pre-school Learning Alliance accreditation scheme was set up in 1992 as an independent stamp of assurance of a high quality setting and commends pre-schools in nearly 300 aspects of quality, including curriculum planning, early learning goals, quality of teaching and parental involvement.
